George Grange's Memories
I worked on the hall on and off in the 1950 1960 period whilst working for the National coal Board Property repairs section in Denaby, it was a wonderful place, and had lots of history, I remember well the oak room, and the work was due mostly due to dry rot and not subsidence, from my memory, and natural aging, wear and tear, we had to replicate old skirting and architraves etc, and had to make them look old, I believe at one time it was used to house prisoners of war, but this was second hand information, it was used for the top managers etc of the coal board, I was an apprentice at the time , the tradesmen were Wally Ashby, Peter Madin, and Joe Steel, carpenters not to mention all the other trades.
